Torn, an art exhibit at the Urban Arts Space Gallery in Columbus, OH
At a young age my spirit was torn and scattered between worlds; my art reunifies the pieces. Parts of me were engraved with the devotion, poverty, acceptance, and division of Gujarat. Ohio taught me ignorance, friendship, consumption, and structure. While painting I use expressive strokes of paint to reveal synthesis of internal conflict and execute a premeditated idea. However, my process leaves room for deviation, often serving as an exploration of unanticipated thoughts and connections buried within me. My photography serves as a tool to directly engage with the community and world around me. Through street photography I capture the extraordinary in everyday life while also showcasing the dignity of those around me. My work allows me to share my reality as a second-generation Indian-American.
